Receptive and Expressive Language Disorders
Children with receptive language disorders struggle to comprehend age-appropriate vocabulary, follow age-appropriate instructions, and understand age-appropriate inquiries.
Meanwhile, expressive language disorders refer to conditions that hinder a child’s capability to use age-appropriate vocabulary and construct age-appropriate sentences to express themselves and their needs, feelings, and ideas.
Expressive language pertains to the ability of a child to convey a message effectively using words, AAC devices, or signs. It involves expressing wants and needs, building vocabulary, constructing grammatically correct sentences, narrating stories, and asking/answering questions.
Pragmatic Skills, or Social Language Disorders
We teach children how context contributes to meaning, helping them understand how to appropriately use language in social interactions. Social language disorders may include difficulties with social interaction and social cognition.
